The saddest words today I write

For I cannot see you tonight

How I long to see your smile

But that won’t happen for awhile

I wish you were here

Right by my side

So I could hold you

Tight in my arms

I wouldn’t let you go

For when I let go

I’d have to leave

And I don’t want that

For I’d miss you too much

Just like I do now

I wish you were here

So I could see your face

I miss you so much

And when I miss you this much

I call you on the telephone

But this doesn’t help

The way that it should

For then I miss you more

It just isn’t fair

That a young man in love

Should be so far away

From the girl that he loves

But then again, life’s not fair

And once again I find myself writing
